Recently I was asked by a colleague for some specific journal articles. First I tried Ergo but I found the profusion of data bases did not enable me to do one search.
I turned to Google Scholar which enabled me to search through just the one database. I had a very good hit rate and found most of the articles on line or further work quoting the earlier research.
As a teacher librarian, I find it hard to resist directing my colleagues and students to sites such as this rather than more specialised data bases. They are simple and functional and enable the userr a one step search through a massive database.
