and at the end of the third week

My budget has passed ‘quality’ control and been approved. We are going ahead with the purchase of the system with self issue capability and the ability to download e-books to students’ devices.
I have a quote from Zenith regarding shelf ready product I need a few clarifications vis a vis our LMS but the pricing is competitive and makes this a real option.
I have also been building up our virtual MUFYlibrary Wiki.

According to Will Richards being literate in this new learning environment requires more than knowing how to read and write, it requires us to edit, publish, collaborate, create and connect in the process of building our own personal learning spaces’

I met yesterday with Andrew who is in my Recolo group to explore web 2.0 and its applications in learning and teaching. We are looking at how to apply web 2.0 to his Unit 2, VCE History which looks at the Cold War covering topics such as the Cuban Missile crisis, the Vietnam War and the Berlin Wall. The unit begins in Term 3 and we are working to look at how we can work web 2.0 and the portal into presentation and content.

We have thrown up a few ideas and will be meeting soon to finalize an approach that we would like to take. By next meeting I need to explore with Andrew the skills and strategies that the Humanities Domain require from this unit, which will give me a greater idea of how we can go about it. However I would like to see a blog to follow the processes and twitter as an information source.

PS Andrew introduced me to a site worth a look. www.ted.com

Restorative Justice

On the last day of term, we had a PD on Restorative Justice presented by Terry O’Connell.  Terry is an ex copper who has done a lot of work on bringing offenders and victims together and speaks to a variety of organisations including schools.  This is a programme that my school uses and I intend to bring together information on this topic onto the wiki, I will use the pathfinder approach and bring together websites, resources and AV.

The underutilized staff wiki is my preferred form of communication with the staff however the question is how to get them there.  I have decided that I will use the Learning and Teaching group email to alert curriculum leaders to any additions to the wiki.  I will use specific learning domain areas to promote specific topics of interest.

twittering

Today I have set up a twitter for the staff – check out https://twitter.com/olmc.  However I am still working to set up a list of educators to follow.  I thought about deleting some of the ppl that we have been assigned to follow but thought it best to leave them in so that staff here can understand the randomness that is twitter.  As soon as I have added some interesting educators I will launch the twitter on the web 2.0 wiki
